Pastor, Teacher & Preacher
We Welcome Pastor Kurt as our new settled Pastor!
Hi Friends! I’m Pastor Kurt. I’m honored to have been called as the settled preacher and teacher of Chapel Street, in October of 2015. Me, Jen, and our twins Benjamin and Madeleine are thrilled to be back in New England, surrounded by family and friends and eager to make new friends in our new spiritual home. Oh, and I’m looking forward to going to the beach and getting some steam’ahs and ‘hogs.
I’m a graduate of Andover Newton Theological School where I received a Masters of Divinity degree in 2010. I grew up in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. I spent the last five years serving my first church in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Midwest is beautiful and the people are friendly, just don’t mention the Patriots to anyone, and never wear a Pats jersey. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology degree from Bridgewater State University in 1993. I’ve been a singer since I was in the church choir at the age of five. Since then, I’ve traveled all over North America, Europe and Russia singing in chamber groups and as a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. I’ve soloed for several community groups in Eastern Massachusetts, and I recorded albums with the POPS, James Taylor, and the BSO. I have a passion for the Red Sox that can become a bit obsessive. I’ve come to realize that baseball serves as a wonderful metaphor for life and theology.
Throughout my life, I have served as a camp counselor, a summer security guard at the beach, a residential adolescent psych counselor, a chaplain, a lead singer in a band, a network administrator for the cardiovascular department at Children’s Hospital, the president of an international support group for a rare birth defect called Prune Belly Syndrome, and a crisis management coordinator at a software company. I even know how to make homemade meatballs, pitas, and pizza from my time in high school and college working at Papa Gino’s. All of this experience, in one way or another, has led me to become an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ.
What I want you to know more than anything else is that no matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome at Chapel Street. You are not alone in your struggles. Our promise is to love God with everything we’ve got, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. We recognize that we are called as one body in Christ to do the work of Christ out in the world we inhabit.
If you have any questions, just want to chat about your faith journey, our church, or talk through a struggle with someone who is outside your circle of support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via email at: firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also reach me through the church office at 401.722.7934.
